Join artist & researcher Lucy Wright for wine and nibbles on Saturday 6th September for her talk: ‘Tradition is Good for You!’

Tradition is good for you—or so believes artist and researcher Lucy Wright. In this engaging and thought-provoking talk, Lucy will explore how empowering folk traditions can help us live better, more connected lives. Drawing on over a decade of research into overlooked and lesser-known folklore, she’ll share insights from her recent projects Dusking and Hedge Morris Dancing—both of which reimagine seasonal customs as inclusive, accessible practices for our times.

Wright’s work is rooted in an awareness of the gender imbalance in early folklore collection and the barriers still faced by many who wish to take part in traditional culture. She invites us to think about how we might encounter and participate in traditions remotely—through time, geography, or imagination—and how these collective rituals can be reclaimed, reshaped, and transformed into deeply personal acts of meaning-making.

From dancing with joy in your own back garden to honouring the quiet gifts of winter, this is a call to engage with tradition on your own terms.
