Kasra Jalilipour - Reliquary

Fabricating and forging and cherry picking, Kasra Jalilipour mirrors the shifting truths of religion in this sculptural exhibition.

Their work picks up some of the tools used by Catholic and Shia Muslim storytellers, and poses questions: why does virginity infer innocence? why does innocence infer accuracy?

The world created in the gallery allows space for histories of lesbian nuns, trans-masc martyrs, women wearing chastity belts as a form of protection, and a less white, less sanitised depiction of sainthood.

Just as the stories woven into these relics blur the lines of fiction and religion, so too do the materials. Fragile ceramic poses as steel and soft bodily features are cast solid.

This exhibition examines devotion, and the human need to love something we do not know.
