Karen explores the past in the present, sensitive to emotional charges and hidden meanings in the everyday and unremarkable. As a child she was drawn to her mothers sewing tin and continues to view the world as if searching, sorting and ordering a jumble of thread, mysterious artefacts, needles and pins.
Placing painstaking craft process in unexpected sites, illuminating the misplaced or overlooked, inviting audiences to honour tales that may be their own. Ritual exists within the process of making, time taken and attuned focus. Heart and hand answering the call of a hunch, a spark, a desire to notice what is hidden in plain sight. Karen was born in London and lives in Matlock, Derbyshire. She has an MA with distinction from Goldsmiths, University of London.
